Vidja Games

What is Gee's fundamental argument?

"I argue that schools, workplaces, families, and academic researchers have a lot to learn about learning from good computer and video games.'

What do agree or disagree with?

Video games are a great learning to tool that increase creativity, work with problem solving skills, and introduce new information.

How does it impact what you believe about good teaching?

Good teaching can involve being open to new ideas to find just another way for students to learn.

How can a program like SCRATCH be used in your classroom?

Asking students to design a game for their classmates to play for learning purposes will
1) help the student learn the information involved in the game
and
2) help familiarize the student with computers and technology

My Thoughts....

The blogging assignment reminded me how difficult writing can be for elementary students. Blogging will benefit younger students by giving them another form of media to practice writing and ultimately become better writers. I do think, however, that blogging should be used in balance with traditional pencil and paper essays, since they will play a large role in the remainder of their school careers.

Scratch....ow

I found an interesting project featuring Garfield and Oddie on a trip to Poland. I'd like to do something similar to this except featuring different characters and a new location.

Convergence Media

Convergence Media = where OLD & NEW media COLLIDE
also, commercial culture and ammatuer culture

implications of convergence culture - social issues, attention deficit

Many schools see 'digital tools' as distractions. Most of these institutions are unwilling to work with there students to incorporate technology into the lessons. I believe it would benefiscial to do so in order to give students a basis of familiarity with their work. This would encourage more participation.
